Today we shared many of our favourite Roald Dahl stories to mark 100 years since his birth.
We read short extracts from Roald Dahl’s books and discussed our favourites. Lots of people liked Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory so we had the chance to pick a chocolate bar from the hat. There were four golden tickets attached to four of the chocolate bars and the lucky winners received a Roald Dahl book. There were two lucky winners in class 2 and two in class 1.
Class 2 also wrote a short description of the tension and anticipation of waiting for their turn to pick.
“We all sat in the hall waiting for Mrs Cowans to put the hat (full of chocolate!) down on the chair. The line started moving. It felt like my bones would just melt I was so hot. We all kept on shifting along the hall. I was nearest the hat. I stood. My legs were shaking like they would fall off. I reached into the hat, my hand lowered into the hat. My hand came out with a bar of chocolate. I looked at my hand and… it was not me!”
Pupil comment – “Roald Dahl is one of my favourite authors and I was able to borrow his books from the library. I love reading so it was a pleasure to read and it didn’t really feel like a challenge”.
