Today we visited the Jewish Reform Synagogue in Newcastle. We were shown around and told about the different Jewish artefacts and customs. Because it is a special, holy place, the boys were asked to wear skull caps or Kippahs. We got to see what was behind the curtain, in the Ark, where the Torah Scrolls were kept. We saw that they were written in Hebrew and that you had to use a special pointing stick to read them so that they didn’t become too worn or damaged.
